How Dental Insurance Works

As an endodontic practice, we do not offer many of the services most dental insurance companies agree to cover (i.e., dental checkups and cleanings, dental crowns and fillings, fluoride treatment, etc.). However, we do provide root canals, tooth extractions, and other similar solutions that insurance companies deem medically necessary. As a result, patients who require this type of care can expect some form of coverage to be provided by their insurance company.

A few things to remember include:

What is the Difference Between Dental and Medical Insurance?

Dental insurance focuses more on the preventive side of care, encouraging patients to seek professional help before a problem occurs. However, because these companies understand that accidents can happen and unexpected decay can arise, they provide a lower level of coverage (50-80% as opposed to 100% for preventive services) when restorative or complex care is required.

Medical insurance, though, focuses on providing the greatest level of savings after a problem or incident occurs. Wellness visits are unlikely to help individuals keep more money in their wallet, but hospitalizations can help a person save thousands of dollars.

In-Network vs. Out-of-Network

The dental office of Dr. Deborah Bishop wants all patients to feel confident accessing superior endodontic care, but we understand it comes at a cost. This is why it’s important to consider the in-network and out-of-network aspects of insurance.

In-Network Coverage

Dr. Bishop and our team are pleased to be in-network with Aetna and Cigna plans and will do our best to maximize your available benefits. Our partnership with these companies allows us to lower out-of-pocket fees on various services so that greater savings can be applied.

Out-of-Network

If you do not have a plan through Aetna or Cigna, do not worry. Just because we are out-of-network with your insurance company doesn’t mean we will not take care of you and your smile. In addition to providing exceptional care, we’ll also file all insurance claims on your behalf so that you have a better chance of receiving the maximum reimbursement.
