woman smiling white teethCongratulations! You’re already taking the best steps possible to improve your oral health if you’ve just completed your root canal treatment. Most patients are scared to take that initiative to address your dental issue.

Once you’ve gone through with the treatment to clean and cap your teeth from infection, you need to know how to care for your smile while it recovers. Learn all about post root canal therapy in Huntsville in this week’s blog post.

What to Do After Root Canal Treatment in Huntsville

After your root canal procedure, you must be sure to follow your dentist’s instructions for proper care. After all, it’s all about keeping a healthy smile! The following are 5 tips to follow after root canal treatment:

1.      Take the prescriptions that your dentist recommends.

You already know how painful it is for your tooth to be infected. So you know, it’s even more important to make sure that you never feel that pain again. Your dentist is here to help you recover your oral health in the easiest way possible.

2.      Pay attention to any mouth pain you experience.

The discomfort you feel after a root canal treatment can typically be treated with your prescription drugs. However, keep in mind that most people only experience pain for a short amount of time. If it continues then you should contact your dentist as soon as you can.

3.      Keep the area clear of dental bacteria and debris.

Make sure that you keep the tooth and gums where your root canal occurred very clean. You can do so by continue to brush and floss regularly and gently rinsing your mouth.

4.      Don’t apply too much pressure to the affected area.

Your tooth will be very tender and sensitive. Don’t put too much pressure on it through grinding or clenching your jaw—you’ll be able to feel it. Try not to use a straw when eating and drinking as it can un-clot the affected area, slowing down the healing process.

5.      There are foods to avoid.

Any food that is hard, chewy, or crunchy should not even come near your mouth after a dental procedure—especially a root canal. In addition, your tooth may be temporarily sensitive to very hot or very cold foods as it heals, so try to eat food at room temperature to avoid discomfort.

If you should have any further questions or concerns about how to care for your mouth after your procedure, don’t hesitate to contact your dentist. Rest assured that while you may experience some slight discomfort after a root canal procedure, this usually subsides within a few days. As long as you follow the above tips and the instructions from your dentist, you’ll recover in no time!
