Not only have you completed what you thought would be a beneficial\nand effective procedure, but now you\u2019re facing the possibility of losing your\ntooth. Thankfully, a procedure known as an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbishopendo.com\/apicoectomies.html\">apicoectomy<\/a> saves\nyour tooth, keeping you from having to deal with the process of tooth\nextraction. But what about the recovery process? What should you know about\nthis invasive procedure and any red flags that could appear? Let us explain\nsome of the steps you should take during recovery to ensure it is successful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is an Apicoectomy?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have been told that you are in need of a root canal,\nit is because there is an infection inside your tooth. Without treatment, the\ninfection can worsen and ultimately result in tooth extraction. Although most\nroot canals are successful, there are times when it can fail. When this\nhappens, an apicoectomy is essential to saving the tooth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This common procedure eliminates the infection from the tip\nof your tooth, an area that can be extremely difficult to clean during a root\ncanal because of the many canal present within the tooth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is the Recovery Process Like?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once your procedure is completed, your endodontist will\nprovide detailed instructions on how to spend the next few days at home. Some\ntips you should expect to follow include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Take any prescribed and over-the-counter\nmedications and antibiotics as prescribed or as instructed. <\/li><li>Eat soft foods until you are healed. Hard,\nsticky foods can irritate and become problematic for the injured tooth.<\/li><li>Avoid extremely hot or cold beverages.<\/li><li>Do not drink any alcohol while you are\nrecovering.<\/li><li>Do not smoke or use tobacco products until you\nare completely healed. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You can expect your endodontist to remove the stitches after\n7 days. While there will be some swelling and soreness after your procedure,\nthese will both dissipate and be gone after 14 days. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When Should You Follow Up with Your Endodontist?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When you return to have your stitches removed, it is\nimportant that you explain to your endodontist any problems or issues you\u2019ve\nbeen having, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Increased swelling<\/li><li>Worsening pain<\/li><li>Signs of infection, including sore gums, inflammation,\nor fever<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>An apicoectomy isn\u2019t a scary procedure, and if it means\nsaving your tooth, your endodontist will ensure every measure is taken to help\nyou keep your natural tooth.
